While getting a tattoo is always going to mean at least a little pain, some tattoos hurt more than others — and Lucy Hale knows this firsthand.

In total, Lucy has got thirteen tattoos so far, each carrying a different story or meaning. She has “I love you” written in her grandmother’s handwriting on her forearm, a vintage lightbulb on the back of her left arm by famed artist Doctor Woo, and an adorable little elephant tattoo on the inside of her elbow that she picked up during a trip to Cambodia. But of all her ink, there’s a clear standout when it comes to pain: the lowercase “a” on her left index finger.

In a new video interview with Wired, Lucy opened up about her tattoos and she took the chance to spill some deets about her pain tolerance, admitting her little “a” is the most painful tattoo she’s ever gotten. “It’s one of my favorite ones but it actually hurt the most!” Lucy exclaims in the video.

While the tattoo is undoubtedly super cool, it’s understandable why it was so painful. As Lucy tells it, getting the tattoo “hurt the most because it’s right on the bone.”

People who have been following Lucy (or are fans of Pretty Little Liars) probably don’t need the explanation behind this tattoo in particular. But just in case you need to jog your memory, Lucy played a character named Aria Montgomery on PLL. Fans of the show know there’s a whole lot more to explain here, but for now, just know that the cute little “a” on Lucy’s pointer finger is PLL-inspired to the core.

In fact, Lucy actually picked up the tattoo with the rest of the cast back in 2016 after it was announced that the show would be leaving the air. She shared their matching tats on Instagram, writing: “This happened,” adding “We couldn’t not get tattoos to commemorate the show! And obviously on our ‘shh’ finger.”

And all this has us thinking, does that mean we can expect a Katy Keene-themed tattoo at some point? Only time will tell!
