Lucy is featured in Patrick Droney’s new music video and I’ve added promotional images and will edit post with screencaptures!
In case you’re wondering just how awkward the audition process was for 50 Shades of Gray, apparently the answer is very. Like…verrrrrrrrry. Turns out Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale auditioned for the part of Anastasia Steele and recently described it as truly mortifying.
“I was very young,” she told The Associated Press. “It had to have been, not 10 years ago, it was a while ago, and I was, like, mortified.” She went on to explain that while the audition wasn’t “actual scenes from the movie,” she did have to read a “very sexually forward monologue.”
“I didn’t really even know what I was saying in the audition, like I didn’t understand” she said. “I was a little naive about it all … It was good for me because it scared the crap out of me to do an audition like that.”

In total, Lucy has got thirteen tattoos so far, each carrying a different story or meaning. She has “I love you” written in her grandmother’s handwriting on her forearm, a vintage lightbulb on the back of her left arm by famed artist Doctor Woo, and an adorable little elephant tattoo on the inside of her elbow that she picked up during a trip to Cambodia. But of all her ink, there’s a clear standout when it comes to pain: the lowercase “a” on her left index finger.
In a new video interview with Wired, Lucy opened up about her tattoos and she took the chance to spill some deets about her pain tolerance, admitting her little “a” is the most painful tattoo she’s ever gotten. “It’s one of my favorite ones but it actually hurt the most!” Lucy exclaims in the video.
While the tattoo is undoubtedly super cool, it’s understandable why it was so painful. As Lucy tells it, getting the tattoo “hurt the most because it’s right on the bone.”
People who have been following Lucy (or are fans of Pretty Little Liars) probably don’t need the explanation behind this tattoo in particular. But just in case you need to jog your memory, Lucy played a character named Aria Montgomery on PLL. Fans of the show know there’s a whole lot more to explain here, but for now, just know that the cute little “a” on Lucy’s pointer finger is PLL-inspired to the core.
In fact, Lucy actually picked up the tattoo with the rest of the cast back in 2016 after it was announced that the show would be leaving the air. She shared their matching tats on Instagram, writing: “This happened,” adding “We couldn’t not get tattoos to commemorate the show! And obviously on our ‘shh’ finger.”
And all this has us thinking, does that mean we can expect a Katy Keene-themed tattoo at some point? Only time will tell!
